Sairam Medical trust wasprimarily established to provide medical help to the needy people in the village. The trust has adopted a small village near Kumbakonam, Tamilnadu and people who need medical assistance are treated by doctors who are compensated by the trust for their services.
Presently we have about 120 poor persons receiving free consultation and free supply of medicines including Injections wherever necessary. They get this help as and when they fall sick. For this purpose we have made arrangements with a Doctor who is practicing in the village for more than 10 years. The Medicines prescribed by the Doctor are supplied by a Local Registered Pharmacy. We are reimbursing the fees to the Doctor and cost of the medicines for the pharmacy every month from the Trust funds made up of small donation from the Trustees and well wishers.
We have a well established system for identifying the Beneficiaries of this free medical service and procedure for verification of the bills before payments are made from our Administrative office at Chennai. One of our Trustees lives in the village and he is assisted by a service minded Retired gentleman in the day to day working of the system.
Our trust is a registered in Chennai with a charitable trust deed and our accounts are audited every year by a Chartered Accountant . We have obtained extension of the initial one year Income tax exemption under section 80G for further period of three years from 1.4.2006 to 31.3.2009 All donations to the trust are eligible for the tax benefit under 80G vide DIT(E)No2(1036)04-05
We have a long list of poor persons of that village in the waiting list. Though we have necessary infrastructure to cater them all, the constraint is funds. We need to put in place of Pathological tests facility for the patients for proper diagnosis and Treatment. We also propose to conduct periodical Medical camps in the village with specialized Doctors from the city to help the poor villagers in attending to the Health problems (i.e) General health, Eye , ENT, Dental etc.
